Consumers in Europe know of Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving when many businesses offer special deals. However there is a new trend emerging in the region that may soon surpass it, known as Travel Tuesday.

The phenomenon, which The New York Times credited to online-booking platform Hopper for popularizing, is a day in which shoppers can find deals on travel purchases such as hotel stays and airline flights.

In recent years it has gained interest from individuals not only from the US and Canada, but also increasingly from Europe.

Particularly in the UK, the Netherlands and Spain, there’s been elevated interest online.

Data provided by the travel marketing platform Sojern showed that last year, Travel Tuesday saw notable bumps in hotel, cruise, and airline purchases compared to the 2 weeks prior and after.
