Artificial intelligence is becoming a standard part of software development, but its growing presence is raising a more complex question for enterprise technology teams: how do organizations turn faster coding into dependable software delivery?

The 2025 State of AI-assisted Software Development report from DORA, based on responses from nearly 5,000 technology professionals and more than 100 hours of qualitative research, found that AI amplifies an organization’s existing strengths and weaknesses. The research points to organizational systems, internal platforms and clearly defined workflows as important factors in realizing returns from AI adoption. The report suggests that the technology alone is not enough to improve overall performance.

The challenge is particularly relevant for companies modernizing software systems that support complex services. Academic HealthPlans (AHP), a U.S. provider of student health and wellness consulting and plan administration, has partnered with Gorilla Logic to integrate AI into its engineering processes while strengthening software delivery and performance measurement.

The multi-year partnership will focus on modernizing AHP’s technology platform, improving software development practices and creating a more scalable approach to product development and customer service.

Engineering practices become central to enterprise AI

The industry’s experience illustrates why AI adoption requires more than introducing new development tools. DORA’s 2024 research estimated that a 25% increase in AI adoption was associated with a 1.5% decrease in software delivery throughput and a 7.2% decrease in delivery stability. Those figures represent modeled associations from the study, not proof that AI alone caused the declines. The findings nevertheless highlighted the importance of delivery processes, testing and engineering fundamentals.

AHP’s partnership with Gorilla Logic is designed to address these operational requirements through a structured technology transformation.

The companies have already conducted an AI-enabled assessment of AHP’s existing technology and engineering environment. The work combined AI-assisted analysis with hands-on engineering expertise to identify areas where modernization could have the greatest impact.

The broader initiative will introduce governed AI-enabled engineering workflows, shared technical knowledge and a framework for measuring development velocity, reliability and predictability.

“AI can increase the speed of software development, but enterprise-grade technology still requires governance, sound engineering practices and experienced judgment,” said Drew Naukam, CEO of Gorilla Logic.

Gorilla Logic will also contribute its Construct™ engineering system, which brings together reusable expertise, reference architectures, accelerators and established delivery practices.

From AI experimentation to operational change

For AHP, the transformation comes as it invests in the technology and data infrastructure needed to support increasingly complex requirements from colleges and universities across the United States. The company, part of the Brown & Brown Team, has spent nearly three decades working in the student health and wellness market.

“AI creates an opportunity to fundamentally improve how we operate and how we serve our clients, but the goal is bigger than simply introducing new technology,” said Terry Lyons, CEO of Academic HealthPlans.

Lyons said the company wants to build a foundation that allows it to move faster, make better use of its data and maintain the expertise and service its clients expect as the business grows.

The partnership aims to give engineering teams greater autonomy, make software delivery more predictable and help AHP scale innovation across its organization. It is also expected to strengthen the company’s ability to use data and AI to generate deeper insights for the educational institutions it serves.

“Technology is increasingly central to how we help institutions navigate the complexity of student health,” Lyons said. “This partnership is an investment in where that experience goes next.”

The companies have not disclosed the financial terms of the agreement, specific productivity targets or projected cost savings.

Founded in 1998, AHP provides customized student health benefit programs and administrative services for educational institutions. Gorilla Logic provides AI-native product and platform engineering, AI agents, workflow automation, AI-enabled software delivery and enterprise integration services.
